Welcome to Year 3

We are delighted to welcome you to Year 3 at Heronsgate School. This year group is made up of three classes:

  • Nightingales – Miss Ash
  • Wrens – Mr Bowskill
  • Sparrows – Miss Viveiros

Meet the Team: Meet the Team - Year 3 2025-26 (1) (1)

Children in Year 3 follow a structured daily timetable. Core subjects—English, mathematics and reading—are taught each morning. Foundation subjects, including art and history, take place in the afternoons. As part of Key Stage 2, pupils are introduced to a broad curriculum with a strong focus on developing subject knowledge and vocabulary over time.

Autumn Term Overview

Mathematics We follow the White Rose scheme. This term, pupils will explore:

  • Place value (Weeks 1–3)
  • Addition and subtraction (Weeks 4–8)
  • Multiplication and division (Weeks 9–12) Times tables covered this term include 2, 4, 5 and 10.

Reading Our reading is linked to the topic Emperors and Empires. Pupils will study the text Escape from Pompeii and the poem Kind by Jess McGeachin.

Project Work Our topic Emperors and Empires builds on prior learning about Roman Britain. Pupils will explore daily life in the Roman Empire, including the events surrounding Pompeii.

PE Days

  • Wrens – Monday and Friday
  • Nightingales – Thursday and Friday
  • Sparrows – Monday and Tuesday

Reading Information

Each child will be assessed and given a reading book suited to their level. Further details about our reading curriculum can be found in the Reading section of this website.
