The Heronsgate Way

The Heronsgate Way underpins everything we do at Heronsgate. It shapes our expectations, guides our behaviour and supports a positive, purposeful learning environment for every child. Our approach is built around three core principles that all members of our school community follow:

Learn and help others to learn

We believe that learning is a shared responsibility. Children are encouraged to take pride in their own progress while supporting their peers, creating a culture where everyone can succeed together.

Respect all people and property

Respect sits at the heart of our school. We value kindness, good manners and care for our environment, ensuring that Heronsgate remains a safe and welcoming place for all.

Work hard and do your very best

We expect every child to show determination, resilience and a positive attitude. By putting in effort and striving for excellence, pupils develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive.

SAFE Expectations

Beneath these three principles sits our acronym SAFE, which outlines the specific behaviours that help children meet the expectations of The Heronsgate Way.

Rewards and the House System

Our rewards system is closely linked to our School House System. Every child belongs to one of our four houses:

  • Hawks
  • Kestrels
  • Falcons
  • Eagles

Children earn house points for demonstrating the behaviours and values set out in The Heronsgate Way. These points are awarded through our parent/carer communication app, Marvellous Me, allowing families to celebrate their child’s achievements in real time.

For pupils who go above and beyond, staff may award a special badge. This recognition is shared with parents and carers through the app and each badge is worth five house points, reflecting the exceptional effort, determination or kindness shown.
